Saint George's, the village main church was built in 1878. The builders names are not known, but it is certain that they were from Nicosia. The church was not inaugurated until 1901 and the inauguration ceremony was carried out by the Bishop of Kition, Kyrillos the First. |
Before this church was built, services were held at the old church of St. George, which is next to the cemetery and is from the Byzentine period. The churches were dedicated to St. George, because it is said that he once saved the village and its people from an outbreak of cholera. Other churches within the boundaries of the village, include the old St. George's Church, which is mentioned above. |

Nearby churches include St. Heraklidios near Zyghi and St. Andronicos, east of Psematismenos village. St. George's Church has a committee of five members, the President of which is always the Priest. Its duties are to manage the property of the church, to organise the smooth running of services and carry out any maintenance necessary. Over the years many people have donated various things to the church, such as money, land, gold and icons. This has resulted in the church having considerable wealth. |
St. George's Day is celebrated twice every year, on the 23rd of April and the 3rd of November. The church celebrated its centenary 2004 in November. |
